MMF is going Zero Waste!

IMG_6022.jpg

Since 2019, MMF has partnered with Pennsylvania Resources Council's ZeroWastePA to divert waste from the landfill through reduction, reuse, recycling and composting.

We started with an all-volunteer recycling effort in 2019, added staffed services to sort compostable and recyclable waste in 2021, and went a step further to purchase all compostable cups for our bars in 2022.

Since we started tracking in 2021, our efforts have diverted over 3,745 pounds, diverting 76.8% of waste from the landfill!

We aim to be a fully Zero Waste festival, and we need your help to get there!

What can you do?

All MMF bars are using compostable cups for draft beverages. Look for the Mooshead logo –these cups go in the green bins marked “COMPOSTABLES”, located at Zero Waste Stations throughout the festival.

MMF is Solar Powered!

Did you know 7 of our 28 stages were powered by the sun in 2022? Through partnership with ZeroFossil, four of our outdoor stages were powered with mobile solar installations, and three indoor venues (the Millvale Moose, the Millvale Community Center, and the Millvale Community Library) are powered by rooftop solar installations, made possible through the TriBoro EcoDistrict.

Through partnerships with ZeroFossil, MMF avoided 1421 lbs of CO2E from the solar stages alone, the equivalent of 1600 miles driven in a gas-powered car!

MMF is Bike-Able!

Avoid parking and go the sustainable route! MMF has partnered with BikePGH since 2022 to provide additional bike racks so you can cruise your way to town and lock your bike up safely. Bike racks will be located at the Millvale Riverfront Park, Playground Stage, MediCap Pharmacy, and on Lincoln Ave at North Ave.

Consider a park & ride! The Millvale Music Festival is easily accessible from the Three Rivers Heritage trail through the Millvale Riverfront Park. There are many public parking locations along the Three Rivers Heritage trail – consider parking further from town and bringing your bike to make the journey! Check out the full trail map and parking details from Friends of the Riverfront.

Millvale is also accessible by public transit! Look for routes that connect to the 1 to Tarentum, which drops off at East Ohio Street (by Distinctly U and the Millvale Playground Stage), and the 2 to Mount Royal, with drops off at East Ohio, Evergreen & Klopfer (near the VFW and Sidelines) and stops north on Evergreen. Check out PRT’s schedule and the Transit App for up-to-date bus routes and schedules.

You can also lower your carbon footprint by carpooling to MMF, parking at the Bauerstown ball field (152 Koehler St, Pittsburgh, PA 15223) and taking the MMF Shuttle into town (Saturday Only).
